KEY WORDS: To Kill a Mockingbird, Transformed, Sports Spectrum
As discussed last week, “key words” are well, key! Their influence can be subtle, like “below the radar,” almost subliminal. They also, can shout at you and demand you to act!
In stories, headlines and lead paragraphs are often constructed to capitalize on key words that show up high in online searches and algorithms. However, the focus here at Media on Mission for the KEY WORDS feature is on the impact words can have within not just a headline or lead, or SEO, but an entire story. Another words, words matter!
Below are headlines and leads to three key stories published during the week.
School Removes ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ From Reading List

To Kill a Mockingbird has been removed from the reading list in a Washington School District. Educators say the beloved classic is racially insensitive.
“I can only imagine the pain and despair that any student might experience while reading it in class,” Mukilteo School District board member Judy Schwab said during a school board meeting.
The book written by Harper Lee tells the story of a black man falsely accused of attacking a white woman — a novel that opened the eyes of generations to racism in the Deep South.
Now banned by the cancel culture mob.
High school English teachers Verena Kuzmany, Riley Gaggero and Rachel Johnson asked in September that the book be removed from the required reading list. Reasons included it “celebrates white saviorhood,” “marginalizes characters of color” and “uses the ‘n’ word almost 50 times,” the Everett Herald reported.

‘Hacksaw Ridge’ Star Unashamedly Shares Powerful Gospel Message With Millions: ‘Jesus Came Into the World to Save Sinners’
BY BILLY HALLOWELL
CBN NEWS/FAITHWIRE
“Hacksaw Ridge” star Nathaniel Buzolic openly shared the Gospel message in a recent Instagram post, exploring Jesus’ biblical healings and the importance of being “transformed on the inside by the Word of God.”
Buzolic shared an image of the Sea of Galilee and a question about the Book of Mark. He asked if anyone ever wonders why Jesus instructed those He healed not to share that He was the person responsible.
“Jesus didn’t want people to proclaim Him as the healer simply because this wasn’t Jesus’ primary purpose for His visitation among men,” Buzolic wrote, noting that Christ made it clear He came to spread the Truth.
The actor continued, “The more famous Jesus became for healing, the less people wanted to hear about the actual Good News of the Kingdom of God that Jesus had came to proclaim.”

Super Bowl LVI: Where Sports and Faith Connect?
BY ALEX MURASHKO
THINKE
Before Jason Romano left a 17-year career with ESPN as an Emmy-Award winning producer and senior manager to join the faith-based sports media Sports Spectrum he wanted to make sure it was the right decision.
When the offer was made to him in December 2016 to work “Where Sports & Faith Connect” it was 40 percent less than what he was earning at ESPN, Romano told Think Eternity recently.
The potential to go further at ESPN was still there. He created and produced content for ESPN shows such as SportsCenter, Monday Night Football, Mike and Mike in the Morning, Sunday NFL Countdown, College Gameday, MLB’s All Star Game and many more.
“To walk away from a comfortable job I really had to make sure that if this was going to be done we just had to go for it,” said Romano, who prayed with his wife about the decision. “I wanted to make sure that it aligned with what God wanted me to do. Once I walked through this door I just trusted God and the doors blew open.”
